Movie Night: party games for the TV
Movie Night turns your TV into a party-game screen. Guests join from their phones by QR code, and the questions come from your own Beebo library. It is a beta, and it has been tested only with simulated phones.

How it works
The TV shows a big QR code and a short room code. Up to 12 people join by scanning it with a phone browser on your home Wi-Fi. The questions are made from your own library: the posters, taglines, cast and years your PC has already saved.
Start a room
On the desktop app, open a film’s page and press Start Movie Night, then show it on the PC or on your TV. Or open the Movie Night page from any TV browser:

They pick a nickname and a colour. No app, no account and no internet. The first guest to join can start games and skip from their phone, and the TV remote can do the same.
Play
Pick a game from the menu, or a group vote for what to watch. Scores and a final scoreboard appear on the TV, for players or for teams.

If you started from a film’s page, Play tonight’s movie starts it, and an Intermission quiz can ask about it.
The games

A game only uses films that have enough saved (for example a poster, a year and some cast). If your library has too little saved, the lobby says what a game still needs. Team scores are averaged so a bigger team is not favoured.
What you need
- Beebo for Windows 0.1.58 on the PC that holds your films, with posters and details already saved from TMDB (see the TMDB key guide).
- A TV or screen with a web browser, or the PC itself connected to the TV. There is no Movie Night app for Roku, Samsung, LG, Xbox or Apple TV yet; those apps are In development.
- Phones with an ordinary web browser, on the same home Wi-Fi. By default only your home network can join.
- No internet during the game, once your library’s details have been saved.
Families and privacy
- Parental controls and a rating limit apply. Only titles the room’s host profile may see, and that are within the owner’s rating limit (PG-13 by default), go into a game. Films with no saved rating are left out unless the owner allows them.
- Guests need no account. They give only a nickname, which is typed by them, limited in length and cleaned of odd characters. The host can remove anyone and lock the room. There is no chat and no free text apart from the nickname, so supervise the room as you would any group activity.
- Games use your own cached library data. They read only what your PC has already saved, and make no requests to the internet. The rooms live in memory on your PC and end with the night.
- No accounts, ads, analytics, cookies or third-party requests. The phone remembers your nickname in its own browser storage only.
- Movie Night is a family activity, not a children’s product.
This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. Posters shown are the ones already saved for your library.
What is not tested yet
- Real phones on a real Wi-Fi network. Movie Night has been run with simulated phones only.
- Real TV browsers, and the remote-control keys on them.
- The Android app’s Movie Night tile (a window that can only visit your PC) is in Android 1.40: Available now — test build (Beta). It has not been checked on real phones.
- A rare wrong answer in Cast Match may in truth have a small part in the film, because it checks the saved cast list, which holds the top-billed actors only. The question says “was in”, not “was billed in”.

What is Movie Night?
Party games for the living-room TV, played from phones and made from your own Beebo library: guess the movie from a pixelated poster, match the cast, guess the year, and vote fairly on what to watch. It is a beta in Beebo for Windows 0.1.58.
Do guests need an app or an account?

Does Movie Night need the internet?

What data does Movie Night collect?
It keeps no accounts or profiles of guests. Guests give only a nickname, the room lives in memory on your PC and ends with the night, and there are no ads, analytics or cookies.
Is it suitable for children?
